Introduction
Are you experiencing tension in your neck or back? Dr. Lisha George from MomStory by Sahyadri Hospital has some simple exercises for you to try, specifically designed for moms-to-be. These exercises can be done while sitting and are great for relieving discomfort. Let’s take a look at them:
Easy exercises for neck stiffness
- Chair Stretches
- Sit comfortably on a chair.
- Hold one hand under the chair and the other hand to your earlobe.
- Slowly stretch, feeling the tension release.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Count to three, four, five, then relax.
- Shoulder Stretch
- Place one hand on your exact upper shoulder and the other hand on the exact opposite shoulder, forming a ‘V’ shape in front.
- Lower your shoulders down and slowly inhale and exhale.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Neck Stretch
- Bend your neck forward, exhale, then inhale and relax.
- Interlock your hands behind your back, forming a ‘V’ shape in front of your chest with your elbows.
- Slowly press down your shoulders, breathe in and out.
- Repeat the neck bend, inhale, and exhale.
- Spinal Twist
- Sit at the edge of your chair with your feet firm and straight.
- Twist your spine slowly, looking behind you, and inhale and exhale.
- Repeat on the other side.
Remember, these exercises should be done gently and only to your comfort level, especially if you’re a first-timer. Avoid overexertion. If you have any concerns, consult your doctor before attempting these exercises, especially during your first or third trimester. For more details, contact us at 8888822222.
